"All children develop their individuality and self-esteem as they are given choices over activities, have opportunities for self-selection and get respect for their ideas and opinions from the staff and other children" OfSTED - February 2008
Smizkids511
"Children's behaviour is exemplary. A strong emphasis is placed on promoting positive behaviour and successful methods are adapted effectively to meet the ages and developmental stages of all children. Children listen intently to staff and respond positively to a consistent use of praise and encouragement. Children receive warm cuddles and affection and build trusting relationships which contributes to their sense of belonging. Children make active decisions about their play, making choices as they develop their confidence and self-esteem. They develop an acute awareness of the needs of others as they help each other and learn to share and take turns. They play confidently alone and socially and ask for appropriate help if required" OfSTED - February 2008

New Download page - 12th February '09
We have been asked by parents to make available a video of the children playing in the snow. Therefore we have created a new downloads page under the downloads section. The video is the first one on the page, but be warned - it is a large file to download!
All change! - 15th December '08
This year has seen some massive changes in the nursery. Sandy has come back for her third tour of duty - hopefully we can keep her here this time. Marlene is retiring this month after 12 years of service to the nursery and we are lucky to have found Sam to take over her role in the kitchen. Saira has gone off to pastures new on the Ski slopes of Kaprun in Austria, Annie went off to work with children in Ashby School (The only place where Annie is smaller than ALL the kids!) and Nikki left to go and become a tutor in Early Years at college. Three on maternity leave, four more about to go on maternity leave and yet it seems to be 'service as usual'.
Ofsted inspectors come and go! - 29th April '08
Two inspections in three days and two different outcomes! OUTSTANDING for Smizkids511 - so well deserved, and GOOD for the Nursery - actually described as "The upper end of good" by the Ofsted Inspector - whatever that may mean!. Sheila has been busy completing the newsletters and they are now out. All of the floors will be re laid by next weekend and that will draw to a close all of the recent refurbishment of all the rooms.
We have been busy! - 16th January '08
Not only in terms of the number of children in the Nursery and in particular Smizkids but we have nearly completed all the decorating now as well. A few bits needing a second coat and bits and pieces but the bulk of it is now done. We are now starting the process of refurbishing the Staff Room, Laundry and toilets and then we will move on to the biggest job of the lot - the main kitchen.
Summer came and went - Somewhere! - 5th October ‘07
It did not last long did it? We never even got the big marquee out this summer and it was up from May to September last year. The new bus for the After School Club comes next week, we are in the middle of the redecorating and Tracey has finally started in the office - which is taking a lot of pressure off me and means I will be getting the Newsletters started again.
Who heard Thunder? - 13th June '07
We have now had a thunderstorm - so summer must be here! Some changes coming soon - first of all prices are going up :-(, and the Summer Club brochure will be out soon. We have some big change arounds in the rooms soon when Karah leaves and some new staff starting. Finally Nicola Abell is starting and we are in the process of ordering another 9 seater bus for the After School Club!
Spring is late - (well it was for the website!) - 20th April ‘07
A little bit late updating the website this month. However nearly all the staff baby photos are done and there are a few change arounds in the staff which have already started happening - more to follow!
Who caught a virus over Christmas? - 9th January ‘07
Everyone in our house did! Winter theme applied and the staff profiles updated - go look at the staff pictures - aaahhhh - many of them have brought in baby pictures so you can see what they were like at the same age as the children in the Nursery. If I can convince the rest of the staff to bring in their baby pictures I will add them to the site.
It's Christmas! - 3rd December ‘06
Today we held our annual Christingle service in Holy Trinity Church in Ashby and raised £368 for The Children's Society. So many people did so much to make it a success, so a huge "Thank You" to everyone, especially Tim and Sarah at Holy Trinity for making us so welcome and giving the collection to us to pass on to The Children's Society along with the money we raised.
Autumn is here! - 5th October ‘06
I know you will all be saying "you said the sun had been seen a couple of times and we had a thunderstorm so summer was here - but we did not realise that that was all we were going to get of summer!" but hey - this is England - if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes! :-) Anyway - time to roll out the Autumn theme for the website.
The summer site is up! - 1st June ‘06
Well, the sun has been seen a couple of times and we have had at least one thunderstorm so it's official - British Summer has begun - so it's time to roll out the new sunny backgrounds to the web pages. The summer club planning is nearly done so sometime in the next week the booking forms will go out and then we will have a busy time getting ready for the club.
